Essay For Science Boon Or Curse

  • It is a bane

Because of advancement there is pollution all round. The people at the age of development didn't think about the after effects of development which can't be rectified now. In the olden days, with no pollution, the food supply was surplus, adequate environment was green which didn't cause the temperatures to rise due to which people could live peacefully. Development is a bane because the people at that time didn't think about its after effects due to which we are facing more problems than living peacefully.

  • It is upon us

Science is a boon. It is upon us whether to use it in the form of a bane or use it as a boon. For eg- Atomic research.
Atomic research can be used to generate nuclear power but countries can use it to make atomic bombs to destroy the opponent countries.

  • Yes.. It is boon...

Modern age is full of scientific advancement.. Every area whether for earning or recreations people depends on scientific technology.. Technology has revolutionized human life. People able to get up-to-date information through this advancement. Every aspect of life depends on technology. We can't imagine a world without this modern science. Some may argue that scientific advancement is a threat to man kind. Everything has its own advantage and disadvantage. Einstein would have never imagined that his e=mc^2 would take the lives of innocent people. Thus the science is not to be blamed it is the evil man who is misusing its power is to be blamed for all the danger it causes

  • Yes it is a boon..

Today, science has so much involved in our life that it is really hard to imagine living without the science. Every part of life whether it is food or recreation is related to science and its various ways. To decide that whether science is a boon or a bane for mankind is not a simple decision.

  • It is a bane not boon

Present science has effected our surroundings and people around. It has made the present generations "couch potatoes." it has effected in many harmful ways. Because of the smoke produced by the industries and vehicles- our ozone layer has been depleted, we have acid rains and much more. Present science and technology is definitely a bane to everyone.

  • Scientific Advancements Promotes Unethical Researches

Scientists and researchers worldwide have embarked on countless of laboratory testing regarding genetic engineering and modifications. Of which these includes in vitro fertilisation, designer babies as well as stem cell research. The intended purpose of such research are usually for the better good of mankind, which is common in most science advancements and inventions.

I have to agree that these researches will overall benefit humans drastically, however there are many ethical issues which come hand in hand with these researches. These researches are mainly unethical because they promote the idea of "playing god" by integrating science with natural processes which should be left untouched and to be developed over time.

For example, creating designer babies is a process where traits (Hair Colour, Eye Colour) of newborn babies can be customized through scientific procedures on an embryo before implantation. This subtly brings about the idea of eugenics or perhaps even the creation of a "super-race". It does sound exaggerated but if every baby were to be genetically modified, the individuality and uniqueness in every person would be lost. Perhaps there might be slight side effects in the future but we are unsure as current testing have not reached mature stages yet.

These researches and advanced sciences certainly do increase the standards of living and quality of life however, the main concern lies in whether science would backfire and affect us in the long run and whether it can be morally defended; whether life processes should be left untouched and allow nature to take it's course or receive continuous human intervention.

  • We can argue that science is both a boon and a curse for humankind.  I will make both arguments and you can decide which you find more compelling.

You can argue that science is a boon for humankind.  This is because science has improved our lives in many ways.  Perhaps the most obvious of these is the fact that science has allowed us to live longer.  Because of scientific advances, we do not die of infections any more.  Women rarely die in childbirth in advanced countries.  Science has also made our lives easier.  Scientific discoveries have given us airplanes that let us go on vacation, TVs that entertain us, and smart phones that both entertain us and let us communicate with others.  In all of these ways and many more, science has made our lives easier and better.

You can also argue that science is a curse for humankind.  Many scientific discoveries have ended up hurting people or the Earth in various ways.  For example, science allowed us to have cars and electricity, but the fuel we burn to get these things has ended up causing global warming which could have very negative effects in the long term.  Science was also used to invent gunpowder, which has been used to kill millions of people over the years.  Finally, science allowed us to create nuclear weapons, which are a menace to people everywhere.  These facts all make it look like science has been a curse.

Which of these arguments, on balance, makes more sense to you?
